“Up’n’Personal” in her own words..!
WHEN DID YOU FIRST REALIZE WHAT YOU WANTED TO BE?
Just like everyone else, I was planning to go for MBA or anything in studies. Though I had interest in trying out new products, I had never thought that this can also be my career. I even bought the whole set of CAT books but after opening the books I realized that I just can’t do it. I was a bright and sharp kid who scored 1st position in grade 12th with 93.75% and got selected in Delhi University but don’t know how I just lost my interest in studies. Somewhere, I was feeling that I wanted to do something with the beauty brands but I had no idea about what can be done. After dropping plans for MBA, I went for bank exams coaching and I paid a big sum for the whole year classes but soon after 3 months on the day of National Banking Exam, I was feeling suffocated and I just told my parents that I can’t. I had no idea about how they would react but I just couldn’t do it. At the same time, I was getting active on social media. I almost became a social media or in fact an Instagram person. I knew I wanted to do something on my own and I wanted to earn. I was following ‘Rati Tehri’s IMBB Blog’ from a long time but when the Brand NYX launched in India and the way it created the buzz in the market through a medium called “Bloggers”, I realized that yes that’s what I want to do. And I explained the same to my parents. Luckily, they supported me and there was no drama. And from that day to till date, I am proud and happy of my decision.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST MOTIVATION?
Social media is my biggest motivation. When I got active on Instagram, I just wanted to do something related to it. I did a lot of research (seriously, a lot) day and night through which I came to know that there is actually a thing called “Social Media Managers/Marketers”. After some time, I got Internships in this field (My background is marketing too, I am a Commerce Graduate) but still, I felt that I wanted to do something of my own. That’s how after some more research, I realized Blogging is the only thing I want. It will be of my own, it will be into ‘beauty’ and my workplace will be ‘social media’. Perfect!
And since I was a little girl, I had interest in trying out new products just to see how it is. As I grew up, I started loving it when people used to ask me to suggest something for face or so. During my teenage days, I started loving ‘Rati Tehri’s IMBB Beauty Blog’. I guess this little spark played a role in my blogging career too.
WHAT ACCORDING TO YOU MAKES A GOOD STORY?
Defining it from all the angles honestly! If I am reviewing a product, I take all the points into consideration from packaging to pricing, quality, ease of use and effectiveness because my target is to satisfy a reader, not a brand. Whether if it is a cafe or food, your views should be honest with your readers. You must feel like If I am the reader and I landed on this page after searching something, am I getting what I expected or what I was looking for?
IF YOU COULD TELL YOUR YOUNGER SELF ANYTHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Maybe a little less introvert, or I don’t know! I guess I am still a little introvert. Whatever I was, good or bad, I guess that’s part of my journey and I am happy with it 🙂
WHAT WOULD YOU WISH TO SUGGEST OTHER YOUNG PROFESSIONALS OF YOUR FIELD?
There is a thing called “Free Products” when you are into blogging. Majority of people only sees that “Wow! You get everything for free”. But no, that’s not actually free. We work day and night for it! My suggestion to young professionals in this field would be that don’t keep your target as to get “Free Products” as there is a lot of hard work, time, mental and physical energy, and dedication that is included. Plus, landing into blogging for products and not giving input to work can somewhere ruin the image of a person. (Personal Opinion)
If you really want to grow as a blogger, have a FEEL like you want to help readers with your views and content, want to share your knowledge, and are willing to put-in efforts. If you are totally into it, the result is just so satisfying that it makes you feel proud of yourself.
